I want to explain why you should ghostwrite in a niche you’re passionate about, even if you don’t feel like an expert.

This is one of the most underrated upsides of ghostwriting.

I talk to so many writers who use the excuse of “I’m not an expert” to stop themselves from ghostwriting in an industry, even though they take a genuine interest in it and keep up-to-date with all the latest developments in the space. The funny thing is, you don’t have to be an authority in something to write well about it.

Ghostwriting is the perfect way to get paid to write in an area you’re passionate about.

Here are 3 reasons why you shouldn’t let a feeling of “I’m not an expert” hold you back from ghostwriting in any area you’re interested in:

Reason #1: Hardly anyone is a “true” expert in their field.

Firstly, let’s set the record straight.

When you start to write for high-level clients, you’ll see how so many people don’t have everything dialed-in with their niche.

No matter the level they’re working at, your clients still have something to learn about their niche. And this doesn’t stop them from talking about it (after all, that’s why they’ve hired you as a ghostwriter!). So even if you only have a basic working knowledge of the industry, you’ll know and be passionate enough to talk to your client, understand what they’re saying, and ask intelligent questions — all essential skills as a ghostwriter.

And remember, you’re knowledge is just one skill you’re bringing to the table for your client. You’re also helping them:

  • Clarify their thinking
  • Articulate their thinking
  • And distribute their thinking

That’s the magic of being a ghostwriter: using what you know and combining it with your client’s knowledge to present them as an expert in their field (which they’d struggle to do without you).

Reason #2: You get paid to learn about your chosen niche.
