Over the past decade, I have made millions of dollars from my writing.

But do you want to know a little secret?

A lot of that money has come from finding new and different ways to monetize EXISTING content I’ve already written. I’m not necessarily writing new things but just finding new ways to monetize something I already wrote in the past.

There are 5 main ways I republish our existing content to squeeze more juice out of it and make more money:

  1. Republishing behind Medium’s paywall
  2. Expanding free newsletter content into paid newsletter content
  3. Compiling newsletters into a book
  4. Create audiobooks of existing content
  5. Build educational products from your proven content

But, before you can start with any one of these, you need to be doing 1 important thing already.

Build A Library Of Free Content

Before we get into the different types, there’s an important step you need to take.

You need to already be building a library of free content.

There’s no sense in talking about how to monetize your existing content if you’re not already:

  • Writing and publishing consistently
  • Creating free things for people to consume
  • Doubling-down on proven data points to create more free content

The reason this is so important is because the data you gather will help you a) build out your library with content people want to read and b) show you what resonates with your audience so you have an idea of what you can monetize.

This data helps you identify:

  • Your target reader
  • What problems they want solving
  • The topics and ideas they find most interesting

Because, ultimately, these proven ideas can become a whole range of different types of content:
