3 Simple Ways To Build A Daily Writing Habit
Building a daily writing habit is both extremely simple and extremely complicated at the exact same time.
- It’s simple because, well, all you have to do is write every day.
- It’s complicated because, well, consistency is easy in theory and difficult in practice.
Over the years, I have witnessed in myself that habits of any kind only move in two directions: forward or backward. They are self-fulfilling prophecies. The more you do something, the better you get at it, the more you want to do it, the better you get at it, and so on. However, the same is true in the opposite direction: the less you do something, the worse you get at it, the less you want to do it, the worse you get at it, and so on.
As a result, building a writing habit isn’t JUST about forward progression.
It’s also about NOT falling back down the hill, and starting to gain momentum in the opposite direction.
So, how do you get into the habit of writing?
- Always remember the real reason why you feel negative, down, frustrated, or stuck.
It took me years, years and years, to realize why some weeks or months I loved writing, and other weeks or months I felt like I couldn’t write if I tried.
